IAS officer SK Maurya succumbs to Covid-19

Two other IAS officers, including Bareilly DM, test +ve; Uttar Pradesh reports 56 deaths, 5,649 fresh cases in 24 hours

Sushil Kumar Maurya, special secretary in the department of language, died while two other IAS officers, including DM of Bareilly, tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. Maurya is the first serving IAS officer who succumbed to the deadly disease. Meanwhile, Mohanlalga­nj MP Kaushal Kishore was admitted to hospital after testing positive for the virus again.

LUCKNOW: Sushil Kumar Maurya, special secretary in the department of language, died while two other IAS officers, including district magistrate (DM) of Bareilly, tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

Maurya is the first serving IAS officer who succumbed to the deadly disease.

The Covid tally in UP reached 2,71,851 with 5,649 fresh cases while the death toll reached 3,976 with 56 more fatalities. Additional chief secretary, medical and health, Amit Mohan Prasad said the case fatality rate stands at 1.46%.

Meanwhile, Mohanlalga­nj MP Kaushal Kishore was admitted to hospital as he tested positive for the virus again.

Chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari condoled the sudden demise of senior IAS officer, Sushil Kumar Maurya. In his message, the CS said: “Maurya was an efficient and able administra­tor. The services

rendered by him will always be remembered.”

As per details available on the department of appointmen­t and personnel website, Maurya was promoted from PCS to IAS in June 2016. DM of Bareilly Nitish Kumar has been admitted to the medical college in the district. The other IAS officer who tested positive was in Aligarh.

A tweet by Kishore said: “I have tested positive for Covid again and I am admitted to Medanta hospital.”
