LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Metro resumed services at 6am on Monday after being closed for over five months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
UP Metro Rail Corporation MD Kumar Keshav was present at the Amausi Metro station when the first train left for Munshipulia, with just 17 passengers on board.
However, the strength of passengers rose to 60 when the train finished its first round at the Munshipulia station. Till 6pm, only 6,134 passengers travelled on the Metro due to Covid scare.
The Metro services will be operational between 6am and 10pm every day.
“I am happy to see Lucknow Metro back on the track. The UPMRC has left no stone unturned to make travel safe for passengers. There was no flag-off ceremony because we don’t want any sort of gathering at any spot,” he said.
He added, “Metro has made use of advanced technology to make travel safe for passengers and staff. The emphasis is on contactless travel, sanitisation, social distancing, hygiene and cleanliness by using ultraviolet (UV) lights for disinfecting surfaces and installing touch-free foot pedals in elevators.”
Initially, the frequency of trains will be every 5.30 minutes, but it will come down to around 3 minutes when the ridership

increases.
At present, 16 sets of trains will run every day between Airport Metro station and Munshipulia. The coaches will be sanitised after every round, said Kumar.
“Before Covid, Metro’s average ridership was around 40,000 per day. However, due to corona scare, if 10,000 passengers use the Metro on the very first day, then it is satisfactory. We expect the ridership to reach around 30,000 this week,” he added.
