81 more succumb to Covid, 6,318 fresh cases in state

A total of 80,89,882 samples tested in UP; Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur report six deaths each

Uttar Pradesh’s Covid death toll rose to 4,771 on Thursday with 81 more fatalities while the infection tally mounted to 3,36,294, as 6,318 new cases surfaced in the last 24 hours, according to the health department.

So far, 80,89,882 samples had been tested in the state, including 1,51,693 in the past 24 hours.

During the day, Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur reported six deaths each, Varanasi and Unnao five each, Bareilly two, Meerut, Shahjahanp­ur and Jhansi three each, Maharajgan­j and Mathura four.

Lucknow reported maximum 908 cases, Agra 175, Mathura 126, Barabanki 130, Kanpur 413

cases, Prayagraj 367, Gorakhpur 219, Ghaziabad 300, Varanasi 214, Ghaziabad 300, Varanasi 214, Meerut 1254, Moradabad 99, stated the health department.

Districts having high positivity rate in UP were Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Muzaffarna­gar and Meerut. While districts with lowest positivity rate included Hamirpur, Hathras, Baghpat, Mahoba and Shravasti, said ACS, health, Amit Mohan Prasad.

Lucknow, which reported the maximum cases, also saw 795 patients being discharged during the day. The Covid tally here reached 42,854, the highest in UP among other districts.

The state capital so far reported 560 deaths, which was the maximum in the state. In all, 258 patients were allotted hospitals, of which 128 opted for home isolation and returned the ambulances.

taken as part of contact tracing drive. “The recovery rate in Lucknow is 75.88% while death rate among Covid patients is 1.30%,” said Dr Sandeep Kapoor, director, Healthcity hospital.

On Thursday, six more plasma units were donated by recovered patients.

“All the donors were below 30 years of age. Total plasma donation till now is above 100 units, said Prof Tulika Chandra, HoD, transfusio­n medicine and plasma bank at the KGMU.

Among those died at the corona ward of KGMU included a 21-year-old youth from Lucknow and a 45-year-old man from Unnao.
