PM praises Yogi for tackling Covid, economic challenges

LUCKNOW : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday had words of praise for chief minister Yogi Adityanath for the high number of Covid-19 tests being conducted per day and handling the arrival of a large number of migrants in Uttar Pradesh.

An official spokesman said PM Modi, who held a video conference on Covid-19 with the chief ministers of seven states, including Yogi Adityanath, also lauded the state government for taking care of economic activities.

“Covid recovery rate in UP is about 82 per cent. UP has done the most Covid tests in the country and economic activities are being taken care of…. Revenue collection in August 2020 is up compared to the correspond­ing period last year,” PM Modi said at the video conference, according to the official spokesman.

PM Modi also appreciate­d the state government’s handling of the arrival of about 40 lakh migrants.

“Despite this, the migrants were taken care of well in terms of food, housing and employment,” PM said, according to the state government’s spokesman.

Yogi used the occasion to express his gratitude to the

prime minister for the latter’s guidance and said there were about 61,699 active Covid-19 cases in the state. He said the better management of health services and deployment of medical staff had led to the recovery of about three lakh patients.

He said out of 1.5 lakh tests per day being conducted in the state, 50,000 were being done by RT-PCR (reverse transcript­ionpolymer­ase chain reaction) method.

He also said effective surveillan­ce was being carried out through nearly 70,000 monitoring committees, prompt contact tracing and setting up of over 64,000 Covid-19 desks.

The Covid-19 situation had been brought under control in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad under the guidance of union home minister Amit Shah, he added. He also said an

integrated command and control centre had been set up in every district.

Yogi said his government was equally active on the economic front and the revenue collection in August 2020 was Rs 9,545 crore as compared to Rs 8,492 crore in August 2019.

He said in addition to this, 23.75 crore man- days of work were created and over 95 lakh people employed under MNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme), the highest in the country. He said over 51.78 lakh labourers were employed in over 8.18 lakh functional units of micro small and medium enterprise­s (MSME).

Loans of about Rs 10,437 crore had been disbursed to 4.32 lakh units under the Aatm Nirbhar Bharat package, the chief minister added.
