‘Lucky to play iconic MSY’

Actor Amyth Sethi feels lucky that he got to play lead in his second film which is biopic of Samajwadi Party founder and ex-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Since the ace-politician has been a wrestler so Amyth has to undergo two months of intense training in Rohtak for the film, ‘Main Mulayam.’ “The weather conditions were tough as we shot in winters and it was difficult to train in wee hours. I even hurt my ribs once. I had to lose weight to keep up as a lean wrestler and then kept transformi­ng my body as the story moved forward. We are showing his journey from early life till he become chief minister for the first time in 1989,” said the actor during his Lucknow visit.

Hailing from Koklata, the actor has a strong theatre background. “My previous release was ‘Chase No Mercy to Crime’ by the same director Suvendu Raj Ghosh. I played a negative character in the film. Thereafter, he offered me this role. I’m glad to portray the iconic politician also the script is also very powerful.”

To get into the skin of the character he took the help of video clippings. “Unfortunat­ely, I have not met him but my director and producer Meena Sethi Mondal did meet him to take his blessings. I researched on his personalit­y, body language and mannerism from the Internet videos. We also spoke to his close associates, went to his native place Saifai before the narration of the script.”

The film has been shot in Kolkata, Punjab, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh. “Makers are looking forward to a theatrical release and if not, the film will have an OTT release.”

The song ‘Yeh hai Mulayam’ sung by Navraj Hans was launched in the city on Wednesday.
