Lucknow girl Diva Bhatia bags title in AITA tourney

LUCKNOW: Local girl Diva Bhatia continued her winning streak in the AITA Under-18 Championsh­ip Series-3 even on Wednesday, clinching the girls singles title, defeating top seeded Tanushree Pandey 2-1 here. The boy’s singles title went to Madhya Pradesh’s Daksha Prasad.

Playing on her favourite clay curt at the Profession­al Tennis Academy at the Avadh School, Bhatia showed her might over the India No 33 in a marathon battle, which lasted for almost two hours on a shiny day.

Despite winning the first set at 6-2, Bhatia couldn’t dictate terms in the second thus allowing Pandey wresting the set at 6-3. But a decisive Bhatia, a trainee of Prateek Tyagi at LPG Tennis Academy at the Khun Khun Ji Girls Degree College, didn’t lost her heart even after the deuce and went on winning the decider at 10-8 with great court coverage.

In the boys singles final, Prasad broke the dream of local challenger Daksha S Kumar to become the winner with straight sets win at 6-3, 6-2. The

tie lasted one and a half hours in which the contestant­s had to struggle for every point.

KSCC TRIUMPH

A three-wicket haul by Surendra Kumar and sparkling and unbeaten half centuries by Ansh Choudhary a nd Yashovardh­an Singh helped Kooh Sports Cricket Club (KSCC) win the ‘B’ Division Trophy, crushing Indian Eleven Cub (IEC) by nine wickets here on Wednesday.

BRIEF SCORES IEC 168/5 in 35 overs (Virat Jaiswal 100, Gaurang Mani Tripathi 29, Surendra Kumar 3/31) lost to KSCC 173/1 in 22.3 overs (Yashvordha­n Singh 96*, Ansh Choudhary 63*).

NARAYAN SHINES

An all-round performanc­e by Narayan Mukesh (2 wkts, 52* runs) helped Gear Cricket Club (GCC) beat IPRK Cricket Club (IPRKCC) by seven wickets in a ‘D’ division league, at the GP Ground here on Wednesday. BRIEF SCORES IPRKCC 97 in 35.4 overs (Faisal 41, Jitendra Kumar 4/8, V Pandey 2/ 1 8, Narayan Mukesh 2/27) lost to GCC 98/3 in 17.1 overs (Narayan Mukesh 52*, Siddhant Dixit 37).
