5 COPS HURT AFTER ANGRY LOCALS PELT THEM WITH STONES
Five police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, were injured in a clash with locals who were protesting against the death of a youth in road accident in Dubahar area of Ballia late on Wednesday night.
A senior police officer said Vishwakarma Paswan, 25, died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near New Basti Byasi Dhale on Wednesday night.
Enraged over the death of Paswan, the locals put the body on road and blocked it.
The officer said that after receiving information, Tehsildar Gulab Chandra, deputy superintendent of police Arun Kumar Singh, along with police force reached the spot. They tried to pacify angry locals and asked them to lift the road block. It led to exchange of heated arguments between locals and the tehsildar.
In the meantime, tehsildar allegedly slapped a local, which led to crowd pelting stones on cops.
The officer said five police personnel, including deputy SP CO city Arun Kumar Singh, Kotwali incharge Vipin Singh and Dubahar station officer Anil Chandra Tiwari were injured.
Additional superintendent of police Sanjay Yadav said superintendent of police, Ballia, Vipin Tada, ASP Yadav and sub divisional magistrate, Sadar, Rajesh Yadav along with heavy police force reached the spot to disperse the crowd and end the blockade of road.
ASP said that a case has been registered against 35 people under relevant sections of IPC and six persons have been taken into custody.
ASP said heavy police force have been deployed at the spot as a preventive measure.
Injured were rushed to the hospital where they are under treatment, he added.
