KANPUR: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav undertook a 5.5-kilometre parikrama (circumambulation) of the Kamtanath temple barefoot in Chitrakoot on Friday.
Thereafter, he visited six temples, offering prayers and performing rituals at two of them, including a Hanuman temple, besides meeting a number of saints and seeking their blessings.
Yadav, who started the parikrama at 7.30am, said, “I am happy the saints and seers of Chitrakoot are thanking the (previous) SP government for development of this region.”
“The current government has stopped all the development works in Chitrakoot,” he alleged. The SP chief promised to develop Chitrakoot in such a way that it would be known internationally when his party returned to power. He also met local people and had tea at local shops. The SP held a two-day training camp in Chitrakoot to discuss issues like unemployment, problems of farmers and businessmen. “Chitrakoot is a one of the holiest places and what has been discussed will have far reaching results,” he said.
He attacked the BJP government, alleging that the collapse of a crematorium shed in Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar, where 25 people were killed, was a glaring example of corruption.
“There is complete loss of rule of law in Uttar Pradesh. Jungle raj has taken over. I read in the newspapers the courts have advised the UP government not to impose National Security Act (NSA) arbitrarily,” he said.
Yadav alleged the state was seeing the highest number of custodial deaths.
He claimed the SP would form the next government as the dual face of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been exposed. The SP plans to go largely solo in the assembly election, taking some smaller parties along.
