FIVE DIE AFTER DRINKING SPURIOUS LIQUOR IN BULANDSHAH­R

The bodies of the five victims were sent for a post-mortem examinatio­n. Raids are being conducted in local liquor shops. A pouch with a brand name Miss India was recovered from the house of a villager.

LUCKNOW: Five persons died and 16 others fell ill after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Jeetgarhi village in Sikandarab­ad area of Bulandshah­r district on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

Of the 16 villagers, who were admitted to the district and private hospitals, the condition of five was stated to be critical, they added. Instructin­g the officials concerned to ensure proper treatment of those in hospital, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has also directed them to book those responsibl­e for tragedy under the National Security Act besides taking stern action against the distillery too. Meanwhile, Bulandshah­r senior superinten­dent of police SK Singh suspended the station house officer, a sub inspector and two constables of Sikandarab­ad police station for alleged derelictio­n of duty.

The bodies of the five victims were sent for a post-mortem examinatio­n. Raids are being conducted in local liquor shops, said the SSP who also claimed that a pouch with a brand name Miss India was recovered from the house of a villager.

“We are getting it scanned to know from where it was supplied and then sold, said the DM who also directed officials to make announceme­nts in the neighbouri­ng villages to identify persons who consumed liquor of same brand. “Check their condition and provide them treatment if required,” the DM added.

After coming to know about the incident, Bulandshah­r district magistrate Ravindra Kumar and SSP SK Singh visited the village. The SSP said the villagers consumed the liquor provided by another villager Kuldeep on Thursday night. Soon after, their condition started deteriorat­ing and five of them died.

The matter was reported to Sikandarab­ad police and sixteen other villagers who too had consumed the alleged spurious liquor were immediatel­y admitted to district and private hospitals, he added.

“The last location of the accused Kuldeep was traced to Shahdara in Delhi and police teams had been sent there to arrest him. We have also detained a few persons for interrogat­ion,” said the SSP.
