PRAYAGRAJ : Only people with Covid negative report will be allowed to enter the Magh Mela area of Prayagraj and they must have a negative RT-PCR report within five days of entering the city. This was stated by UP chief secretary in the programmes and instructions submitted by him before the Allahabad high court hearing the PIL related to Covid-19.

The bench comprising Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Ajit Kumar, in a suo motu PIL, on the spread of Covid in the state, observed: “After having gone through the instructions, we are not convinced, at all, that the steps which are being taken by the state, would be sufficient to stop the infection if it came through someone who entered inside Prayagraj with it.”

However, while fixing January 12 as the next date of hearing of this PIL, the court directed the state government that by the next date, it may come up with foolproof methods by which it intended to control the spread of the infection.

“They may keep in mind that such congregations during the month of Magh are very large, and if even one infected person sneaks into the city, he can create havoc,” the court added. The court directed the UP government to place before it a definite date and programme as to when and how the vaccination for Covid-19 would be done in UP.
