LUCKNOW: As many as 244 beds will be reserved at Covid vaccination centres in the state capital to give immediate medical attention to beneficiaries in case of any adverse reaction after immunisation. The mega vaccination drive is likely to begin in UP soon.

Lucknow will have at least 61 vaccination centres and 180 vaccination sites where 100 beneficiaries will be immunised in one day at each site. With 18,000 beneficiaries expected to be vaccinated in a day, the health department has identified 244 beds. Each vaccination centre will have four beds.

“All precautions are taken during vaccination, but keeping in view the chance of adverse reaction, the beds have been reserved. These beds will have trained medical staff to treat people,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Association of International Doctors.

“The beds have been reserved keeping in view the number of beneficiaries to be vaccinated at the centres. More beds have been reserved at the place where more people will be vaccinated,” said a senior health department official.

The KGMU, which will hold 33 vaccination sessions, will have the maximum beds while Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and SGPGI will be the next two big vaccination centres.

Lucknow has conducted two dry runs for Covid vaccination on January 2 and 5 and a third one will be conducted on January 11. It is being conducted to check if any change in the process is to be made so that the actual vaccination drive is smooth. In the first phase, 51,000 healthcare workers will be vaccinated in three vaccination days.
