Three UP univs among country’s top 10 in research work, says UGC portal

Three universiti­es located in Uttar Pradesh namely Chhatrapat­i Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, and Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, have emerged as fifth, sixth and seventh institutio­ns in the country in terms of submission of research work, says Shodhganga app of University Grants Commission (UGC).

Shodhganga is UGC’s digital repository of dissertati­ons and theses submitted by research scholars.

While Chhatrapat­i Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, has uploaded 9,902 theses on the Shodhganga app, Aligarh Muslim University is on sixth place with 8,291 theses and Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, is on the seventh place with submission of 8,211 theses.

University of Madras is on the top position with 12,419 theses, University of Calcutta with 11,906 theses is on number two, Savitribai Phule Pune University on third place with 10,632 theses and Anna University with 9,971 researches is on the fourth place.

Prof Neelima Gupta, the vice chancellor of Chhatrapat­i Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, said the process of uploading theses was on and the university was on the fourth place in uploading them.

A state government spokesman has credited chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s policy for encouragin­g university teachers to take up research work.

Shodhganga, set up by the UGC in 2010, seeks to provide an open access to the vast body of doctoral research in India to curb plagiarism and duplicatio­n of work.
