Boosting enrolment: Language univ teachers to reach out to students of nearby schools
UNIVERSITY WILL FOCUS ON THE SPOT ADMISSION AS WELL TO FILL UP VACANT SEATS AFTER REGULAR ADMISSIONS
LUCKNOW: In an effort to increase the student enrolment in new session, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University (KMCLU), Lucknow, will send a group of teachers to 100 secondary schools, in close proximity to the university, to rope in 10+2 students to seek admission in different courses offered by the university.
Vice chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak said, “We are working on a module where our teachers will visit nearby 100 schools to make presentation before 10+2 students about various courses which are available for them at the undergraduate level. We have to reach out to students as many of them are not aware about these courses.”
University will focus on the spot admission as well to fill up vacant seats after closure of regular admissions. “Our thrust will be to enrol more students from diverse sections so that there are students from all walks of life study in the university,” vice chancellor said. The first academic session of the university began in 2013 with nearly 300-400 students with retired bureaucrat Anis Ansari as its first vice chancellor.
In the academic year 2018-19, total admissions were around 973 and in the following year (2019-20) some 1,452 students took admission.
In 2020-21, total 1480 students were studying. “We have to increase student intake. BBA, BCA and B Com are some of the most popular courses. The university has also started B Tech courses. We are offering B Tech computer science and engineering in artificial intelligence and machine learning which should attract good number of students,” he said.
In November 2019, UP governor Anandiben Patel had suggested changing the name of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu, Arabi Farsi University. Speaking at the university’s fourth convocation, Patel said by this name (Urdu, Arabi Farsi University) it appears that only three subjects - Urdu, Farsi and Arabi - are taught here. But, the university imparts teaching on many other subjects, she had said.
The governor had suggested that the varsity be renamed as Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti University. The then vice-chancellor Mahrukh Mirza acted promptly and proposed name change of the university. He suggested it should be renamed as Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University as the institution was not just confined to only three languages.
“The name change will pave way for speedy growth of this university. It will help in better placement of students. We struggled to convince people that the university is not all about Urdu Arbi or Persian languages. We also offer BA, B Com, BCA, B Ed courses among many other professional courses,” said Prof Pathak
He said, “The name change will encourage people with progressive mind to send their wards to this university to pursue higher studies. In the past, only those students who had no other choice came here.”
