LUCKNOW The Lucknow police have decided to recommended the Medical Council of India (MCI) to take strict action against the two doctors accused of secretly treating a shooter who was injured in the January 6 Vibhuti Khand shootout after getting a call from mafioso-turned-former MP, who is suspected to be mastermind behind the entire incident, said senior police officials.

The official said the two doctors included a Lucknow-based doctor working in two hospitals in Gomti Nagar.

He said the doctor was taken in to custody for being quizzed and released after mentioning his name in the police records about his involvement in treating the criminal. He said the former MP’s aide Vipul Kumar Singh took along Dr Nikhil Singh to a flat near Awadh bus stand to treat the injured shooter immediately after the shootout. He said the doctor treated the shooter for the gunshot injury suffered by him during retaliatory firing by the deceased Ajit Singh’s accomplice Mohar Singh.

He said Ajit Singh, an alleged henchman of gangster-turnedpolitician Mukhtar Ansari, was killed when the four assailants opened indiscriminate fire on him near Kathauta crossing, in Vibhuti Khand while Mohar Singh had suffered gunshot injuries on his leg.

The official said another doctor of Sultanpur district got the injured shooter secretly admitted in his hospital on forged identity for two days on January 7 and 8 before he was shifted to an unidentified location on the morning of January 9.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday, Lucknow Commissioner of Police (CP) apprised director general of police (DGP) HC Awasthy and additional director general (ADG), law and order, Prashant Kumar about the development in the investigation.
