No respite from cold wave till weekend

LUCKNOW : The average minimum temperatur­e in Lucknow was expected to remain around five degrees Celsius for the next two days, said the meteorolog­ical (Met) department officials. Westerly disturbanc­es in the hill areas were responsibl­e for the fresh bout of cold wave that was likely to continue till Saturday, they said. On Thursday, the minimum temperatur­e in Lucknow was recorded at 5.4 degrees Celsius which was 2.2 degrees below normal while the maximum temperatur­e was recorded at 20 degrees C, 1.3 degrees below normal, according to Met data.

The city experience­d heavy fog in the morning which cleared during daytime, revealing the soothing winter sun. In view of the cold weather, the district administra­tion ensured arrangemen­ts of night shelters for the poor at various places across the city.

The lowest temperatur­e in Uttar Pradesh was recorded in Churk where the mercury dipped to 2.5 degrees Celsius, 6.3 degrees below normal. Meerut and Muzaffarna­gar recorded minimum temperatur­e of 2.8 and 3 degrees Celsius.

Jhansi recorded the highest day temperatur­e in Uttar Pradesh at 21.1 degrees Celsius in the daytime, 1 degree above normal. Agra and Najibabad recorded maximum temperatur­e of 21.1 and 20 degrees Celsius respective­ly.
