LUCKNOW : Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Malviya Nagar constituency, New Delhi, Somnath Bharti on Friday got bail from special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur district in one of the two cases against him for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and hospitals of the state.

Bharti, however, will remain in prison in connection with the second case lodged against him for which hearing will take place on Saturday.

Recently, two cases were lodged against the AAP MLA in Rae Bareli and Amethi for making the objectionable comments.

Lawyer Rudra Pratap Singh, who represented Bharti in court, stated that the court granted bail to him on personal bond in one case with a condition that he will not try to threaten witnesses and remain present during hearings.

According to reports when Bharti tried to leave a guest house in Rae Bareli to inspect government-run primary schools on January 11, cops stopped him. Bharti then entered into a heated argument with the policemen. It was then that a youth hurled ink at him. Bharti also had a heated exchange of words with the youth. Thereafter, cops detained Bharti at the guest house.

The ink attack was made on Bharti for allegedly making objectionable remarks against hospitals of Uttar Pradesh. Bharti was arrested on charges of promoting enmity between groups, police said.

In a video link, the AAP MLA is allegedly seen saying in Hindi, “Children are being born in hospitals, but they are of dogs.”

Shortly after ink attack, Bharti also retweeted a video clip in which he is heard using objectionable words for Yogi, while talking about “atrocities on women” in the state.

According to Rae Bareli police, Bharti was arrested on the basis of a complaint by BJP worker Somnath Sahu over his alleged remarks last week against women of UP.
