50K students to sing Vande Mataram, attempt a Guinness record

LUCKNOW: To mark the centenary celebratio­ns of the Chauri Chaura incident, about 50,000 secondary students across Uttar Pradesh will sing Vande Mataram in unison on February 4 in a bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

The state government is planning to make around 50,000 students sing Vande Mataram together to make it to the record book. Currently this record was held by a gathering of 20,000 who sang together, said Vinay Kumar Pandey, director, secondary education.

The UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad has started preparatio­ns for the attempt. The principals of secondary schools in the state have been directed to prepare students for the exercise. They have been asked to ensure that the chosen students of their schools learn Vande Mataram and are able to recite the same flawlessly with correct pronunciat­ion.

He said, “The schools have to upload videos of students singing Vande Mataram on a designated website between 12 noon on February 2 to 12 noon on February 3.” The UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad has formed various social media groups for training of students for the purpose. Assistant director of culture, UP, Amit Kumar Agnihotri has asked secondary education department to make suitable arrangemen­ts for successful completion of the task.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier instructed that the celebratio­ns must be held on February 4 with grandeur and be broadcast live across the state.

He said the families of the martyrs associated with the Chauri-Chaura movement should be honoured and given benefits of government schemes.

Painting of freedom fighters should be made on the walls of the Shaheed Smarak, he said.

It may be pointed out here that ‘Chauri-Chaura Centenary Celebratio­n’ will be held from February 4, 2021 to February 4, 2022, to pay tributes to the martyrs and freedom fighters.
