Sanatkada fest goes online...begins today!

The 12th season of Sanatkada Lucknow Festival, themed Naqsh-o-Nigaare-Baradari, will begin on Monday in a new format with craft, craftsmans­hip, history, literature, food and heritage.

As the pandemic has posed challenges across the world, team Sanatkada has taken this as an opportunit­y to experiment with the annual event on the social calendar of Lucknow that can be enjoyed from the comfort of one’s home.

As a prelude to the fest, a Qaisarbagh Heritage Walk was organised on Sunday. Led by Samir Kher, the walk around the erstwhile Qaisarbagh Palace Complex and was attended by many history enthusiast­s.

Some of the sites visited included the Lakhi Gates, the Chandiwali and Safed Baradari and the tomb of Saadat Khan.

This year the crafts bazaar will be online too. The bazaar will have 100s of the finest specimens of crafts from all across the country. The #handpicked­100 this year include Ajrak by Abdul Rahim Khatri from Gujarat, Loknath Weavers from Kerala, Jamdani by West Bengal Tribal and Jamdani Weavers, Buta from Assam; Kalamkari by Venkata Bhanu from Andhra Pradesh, Warli by Raah Foundation, Banamali Mohapatra’s Ganjifa cards from Orissa to name a new.

The fest this year will see a number of virtual tours, twoday Avadhi home cooked food festival, Karvaan-e-Ghumkkadi-The Avadh experience, kids’ corner, kathak performanc­es, discussion­s, book launch and more.

The fest will conclude on February 12.
