NOW, UP DIGITAL LIBRARY OPEN TO STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

-

: Now students across India will have access to e-content of the digital library developed by the UP higher education department.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed recently between the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) managed by IIT-Kharagpur and the UP higher education department in this regard.

Under this, a hyper link to the UP Digital Library would be made available in NDLI website through which students may access it, an official said.

Additional chief secretary, UP higher education, Monika S Garg said NDLI was the largest online library in the country, particularly for academic purposes and availability of content developed for the UP Digital Library on that platform would benefit many other students across India .

Garg said, “Uttar Pradesh Digital Library is packed with study material in English and Hindi. The task was accomplished due to active cooperation from subject teachers and experts of 23 state universities who prepared 75,000 e-content for students which they are downloading completely free of cost.”

“It also has many audio visual contents along with text which can be used for revision and references and preparing for competitive exams,” she said.

Nearly 3 lakh students have accessed the digital library developed by the department. Mny more would be able to continue with their higher studies with ease while sitting at home in these Covid times, said Garg.

Last year, the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) had approached for partnership with UP Higher Education Digital Library and now recently the MoU was signed.

Garg said, “This collaboration with the national library is a matter of pride and recognition for the outstanding work of the state’s teachers, NIC and departmental officers.”

The National Digital Library of India (NDLI) has opened up its 35 million-strong digital content, making available e-books, past questions papers and solutions, lecture material and theses to help students study at home.

The NDLI was set up by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) and is run and managed by IIT-Kharagpur.

In the content, while 270 million are open access documents, another 7.7 million have been made freely accessible to National Digital Library of India users through national license by MHRD.
