140 players for All India Postal carrom c’ship

LUCKNOW : Around 140 players from 17 circles across India would be seen in action in the 25th All India Postal Carrom Tournament, starting Tuesday, at the multipurpo­se hall of the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here.

The teams included defending champions Tamil Nadu and hosts and runners up Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisga­rh, Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka, Haryana, Maharashtr­a, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telangana and Odisha.

CPMG, UP Circle, Kaushlendr­a Kumar Sinha said participan­ts would showcase their skills in both individual and team events as the finals are due to be played on Saturday. “In view of the COVID19, all safety arrangemen­ts have been made for the teams, coaches, officials during the event,” he said.

FINE SHOW

Lucknow emerged runners-up at the 7th State Dance Sports Championsh­ip held at Meerut late on Sunday evening. Siza, who finished top in the 19-25 category was named best performer of the event. Others, who won medals for Lucknow, included Shivli Singh, Vishal Singh, Avijit Vaish, Snigdha, Saksham Pravakar, Krishna and Nikita.

COACHING CAMP

Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow is going to organize a three day coaching camp for recently selected players from under 14 and under 16 age group trials. Sports Authority of India’s coach Arun Bhardwaj and former Ranji Trophy player Kanhaya Tejwani will provide coaching at CSD Sahara Cricket Ground from Tuesday to Thursday. Interested must report to Mukesh Agarwal at the venue.

COACHES SEMINAR

The two-day coaches seminar under the auspices of the Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow came to an end here on Monday. In all 20 coaches belonging to different academies and clubs in the city, took part in the seminar where they were taught about the finer points of the coaching. Sports Authority of India’s coach Arun Bhardwaj and former Ranji Trophy player Kanhaya Tejwani conducted the seminar.

SELECTED

Two cyclists Lucknow i.e Ansh Pandey and Dev Mishra on Monday made it to the UP Mountain Bike Cycling Team for the 17th National Mountain Bike Championsh­ip to be held in Karnataka from February 19 to 21. Others, who made it to the team in different categories included, Agnivesh Patel, Ankesh Yadav, Ratnesh Singh, Sandhya Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, Akhil Singh and Anshul Katara.

RECOGNITIO­N GRANTED

THE Uttar Pradesh Olympic Associatio­n on Monday granted recognitio­n to the Penchak Silat Sports Associatio­n of UP.

Currently, PSSAUP has 8,000 players across the state. While handing over the certificat­e of recognitio­n to its president TP Haveliya and secretary, Jaspal Singh, UPOA’s secretary general Anandeshwa­r Pandey hoped that in near future more and more players from UP would make their presence felt at the national and internatio­nal level in the discipline.
