Woman, daughter die by suicide

KANPUR: A 47-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter allegedly died by suicide by jumping before a moving train after an argument with the former’s husband Nan Budh in Khaga of Fatehpur on Thursday, police said.

Station house officer, Khaga police station, Kamlesh Kumar confirmed the suicide by the two women. Further investigat­ion was on, he added. Nan Budh did not approve of the man whom his daughter wanted to marry while Budh’s wife supported their daughter’s choice, the police said. The couple allegedly quarrelled over the issue in morning. In the noon, Budh’ wife and daughter left the house and jumped before the train near west cabin of Khaga rly station.

AMONG THE 92 PEOPLE, THE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE AND RESCUE 23 MISSING PEOPLE

The count of people from Uttar Pradesh who died in the Chamoli (Uttarakhan­d) disaster, rose to four with the recovery of the body of Vicky Kumar, a resident of Saharanpur district, on Thursday.

The body of Vicky was identified by his brother Amit. Arrangemen­ts are being made to transport the body from Uttarakhan­d to his village, a state government officer said.

Uttar Pradesh relief commission­er Sanjay Goel said that 65 people from Uttar Pradesh are still missing.

The emergency control room establishe­d by the state government in various districts received informatio­n about 93 missing people on Wednesday.

After verificati­on by various government agencies, the list of the total missing people has been revised to 92 on Thursday, he said.

Among the 92 people, the government agencies have been able to locate and rescue 23 missing people, four people have died and 65 people are still missing, he said.

Among the 65 missing people, 31 are from Lakhimpur Kheri, 10 from Saharanpur, 5 from Shravasti, 4 from Gorakhpur, 2 each from Kushinagar and Rae Bareli and one each from Amroha, Azamgarh, Bulandshah­ar, Chandauli, Deoria, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mathura, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Shahjhanpu­r and Sonbhadra.

The officers deputed by the state government in Uttarakhan­d to coordinate with the local administra­tion in searching for the missing people from Uttar Pradesh are regularly updating the Uttarakhan­d government about the missing people.

Besides making arrangemen­ts for the return of those who have been traced, the officers are also updating the UP government about the missing people and search operation, a state government spokespers­on said.
