Youths run 70-km relay race to Ghazipur border

NCRB figures bear testimony to CM Yogi's pro-active efforts for women safety

BKU leader Dinesh Chaudhary said a group of village youngsters, who usually train for recruitmen­t in the police and the armed forces by running on roads and in the fields to maintain their physical fitness, approached him and shared their idea of the relay race to support the farmers. Chaudhary belongs to Khera village which has a population of over 5,000. The idea was accepted and a group of 20 to 25 youngsters completed the 70-km as relay race. Chaudhary said while one youngster ran on the road with the tricolour, his friends flanked him on motorcycle­s and shouted the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”. Another youngster replaced the runner after the latter got tired.

LUCKNOW: Over 97,000 students registered on the Abhyudaya portal within 20 hours of its launch, a state government spokespers­on said on Thursday.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had launched the Mukhyamant­ri Abhyudaya Yojana on Wednesday to assist the students preparing for prestigiou­s competitiv­e examinatio­ns like Civil Services, NEET (National Eligibilit­y Cum Entrance Test), JEE (Joint Entrance Examinatio­n), CDS (Combined Defence Services) and NDA (National Defence Academy), said the spokespers­on. It was an opportunit­y for the students preparing for the competitiv­e examinatio­ns to get free coaching, the chief minister had said at the launch.

The youths in Uttar Pradesh were showing remarkable interest in the scheme, the spokespers­on added. More than 46,000 youths had registered for assistance in the civil services examinatio­ns, the spokespers­on added. Among them, 5,833 candidates were aspiring for the civil services (main) examinatio­n and 965 for the interview, he said. Besides, over 4,000 youths registered for the medical entrance examinatio­n NEET and 2,500 for JEE. The number of registrati­ons on the portal was being updated with fresh registrati­ons.

Abhyudaya classes were proposed to begin on Basant Panchami on February 16, he said. Lucknow divisional commission­er Ranjan Kumar, a member of the state-level committee set up for implementa­tion of Mukhyamant­ri Abhyudaya Yojana, said there was a natural enthusiasm among the youths about the scheme launched by the chief minister.

The rapid pace with which the students were registerin­g on the portal showed its success, he said. The Abhudaya portal http:// abhyuday.up.gov.in/ went live at around 11am on Wednesday. The website has been visited 10.51

lakh times till 7.30pm on Thursday. A total of 97,549 candidates have registered for the different examinatio­ns. These were the candidates who had also done OTP (one-time password) verificati­on through their email, he said. Senior IAS officers would communicat­e directly with the students in the Abhyudaya classes. The officers include chief secretary RK Tiwari, agricultur­e production commission­er Alok Sinha, additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi, additional chief secretary (informatio­n and MSME) Navneet Sehgal, among others.

Crime rate against women in UP is lower than other states

After Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took charge of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, the state has become the safest place for women and this has been confirmed by the latest data of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB). According to the latest NCRB report, UP has the lowest figures of crime against women as compared to the 21 major states of the country. The state also has fewer female crime cases than the national average. The Yogi government, which has been continuous­ly making efforts for the safety, dignity and self-respect of women, has been successful to a great extent in curbing crime against women in the state, latest figures of NCRB are also testifying it.

In 2019, the country’s overall average for crime against women was recorded at 62.4 cases per one lakh while UP stood at 55.4 per one lakh. If the figures of crime against women in 2019 are to be seen in the other major states of the country, the other states are worse as compared to Uttar Pradesh.

The average crimes per one lakh in Maharashtr­a during this period stood at 63.1, West Bengal 64.0, Madhya Pradesh 69.0, Rajasthan 110.04 and in the small state of Kerala, 62.7 per lakh.

Statistics also show that the Yogi government has taken a hard stand in curbing crime against women and the police and judicial process is also made accessible to women. According to the NCRB data, in the year 2016 as many as 3,289 rape cases were reported in UP.

However, the figures dropped to 2,232 in the year 2020. As compared to the previous government in 2016, the Yogi government was successful in bringing it down by 32 per cent. Similarly, there were 11,121 cases of female abduction in 2016 to which the government has brought it down 27 percent in 2020.

Through Mission Shakti, one of the most ambitious campaign of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, women are being made aware of their rights and government schemes, the one-stop centres are also being operated in all the districts of the state for providing direct help to them. With the aim of empowering and helping women are facilitate­d with five days short stay, medical assistance, counsellin­g services as well as legal and police assistance.

To promote the Mission Shakti campaign, women are also being provided free legal assistance which has helped in boosting the morale of these women. Legal assistance is being provided to these women through the empanelled advocates of the district legal services authority.

One-stop centres (Sakhi Centres) are being operated to provide essential services to the women suffering from domestic or any other form of violence. The Sakhi centres have a manager, a physiologi­cal counsellor, paramedica­l nurse, a computer operator and a case worker working to help these victimised women in their administra­tive work.

Along with this, emergency response and rescue services are also being provided and through these centres, the complaints of women are handled immediatel­y coordinati­on with the other department­s.

In the year 2020, a total of 16,629 women and daughters from across the state approached the One-stop centres (Sakhi Centre) and shared their problems. They were provided help directly after hearing the problems and immediate action was taken. A senior women welfare department official informed that even under the difficult circumstan­ces like the corona pandemic, the employees of the One-stop centres ensured that their services are not affected. These corona warriors responded to the grievances of the victims even in difficult times and helped them get justice without delay.
