LUCKNOW : As part of the one nation one ration card reform that allows for ration card portability which Uttar Pradesh introduced in May 2020, 3,749 ration cardholders from outside the state have taken ration in the state.

“Similarly, 7,431 cardholders from UP have taken ration from other states where they live, mostly to earn a living,” said minister of state for food and civil supplies Ranvijay Singh on

Thursday. He said these figures related to the period from May 2020 till January 2021. Between the same period, he said, 81,54,433 ration cardholders from the state took ration within the district from shops other than the one from where they used to take it all this while. Another, 7,64,819 cardholders, he said, took advantage of the portability scheme to get ration in districts other than their own.

“This portability scheme has helped the poor most as they were the ones who move from one place to another in search of jobs. The temporary nature of their jobs takes them from one place to another and the portability scheme has been a godsend for such persons,” he said.

He further said the government had also decided that such people, whose health didn’t permit them to travel to the ration shops for getting ration, could now get it at their doorsteps. “As of now 8,370 people, including elderly, especially abled persons and others, have started benefitting from the scheme and more would be added in due time,” the minister said.

Ever since its formation, the Yogi government seems determined to not spare any one found involved in crime against women and the statistics are testimony of this fact. While five accused of rape have been hanged, others in 193 similar cases are serving life sentences. Besides, the government has also given strong defense on the basis of which the punishment was handed to culprits in 721 cases.

The Nirbhaya Fund, set up by the government of India to fix the safety and security of women and girls in eight cities, includes the state capital Lucknow. Along with this, deployment of anti-romeo squad across the state, deployment of women cops in plain clothes, UP 112, Pink Patrolling, Pink Booths at main intersections, women help desk at police stations and other similar steps taken by the government clearly indicates its stand on the issue of women safety, security and dignity.
