BIG MONEY ON OFFER IN DIGVIJAY SINGH MEMORIAL CROSS-COUNTRY

LUCKNOW: A big prize-money would be on cards for the winners in the Raja Digvijay Singh Memorial Cross-Country Race, scheduled to be held on February 16, at the Bakshi Ka Talab here. The race will be of 12.5 km for men, eight km for women and five kms each for both boys and girls.

District Athletics Associatio­n’s secretary BR Varun said that athletes participat­ing in the race can register on February 14 and 15, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium and at the SR Global School in Bakshi Ka Talab.

Arun Kumar Singh, president of the Raja Divgivjay Singh Trust, said that race will start at seven in the morning. A sum of Rs 3 lakh would be distribute­d among the winners. “Special arrangemen­ts are being made for the athletes, who are coming from outstation­s,” he said.

POSTAL CARROM

Owais and Imran Khan kept hosts Uttar Pradesh’s hopes alive in the 25th All-India Postal Carrom Championsh­ip, notching up convincing wins, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here. Owais beat Haryana’s Jasvir 25-7, 25-6 to make it to the pre-quarterfin­als, whereas Imran beat Ganesh of Maharashtr­a 25-0, 25-0. In the women’s singles, UP’s Savita Devi defeated Gujarat’s Kshatriya 25-5, 25-0 to enter quarterfin­als.

MISHRA CRICKET

The 1st Kalika Prasad Mishra Women’s Cricket Tournament will be held from February 17 to 19, at the Northern Railway Stadium here. As many as four teams, comprising players from all parts of the state, would be participat­ing. Chairperso­n of UPCA Women’s Cricket Committee, Priyanka Shalley informed that to boost the confidence of participan­ts, some internatio­nal women cricketers are invited on the final day of the event.

ANSH EXCLS

An all-round performanc­e by Ansh Yadav helped Dhruv Cricket Academy (DCA) beat Dhruv Sports Promotion (DSP) by 89 runs in the CAL’s prize money league here on Thursday.

While batting at no 5, Ansh smashed 76-ball 108 with the help of 13 fours and three sixes as DCA piled up 254/6 in 40 overs. Later Ansh bagged 2/7 to see the rivals making 165 in 39 overs. Divyansh Pandey took 4/10, whereas Anurag Yadav took 2/41.
