LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books will be introduced in a phased manner from class 1 to 8 in government-run primary and upper primary schools between 2021 and 2025. He was holding a review meeting with ministers and officials here.

The decision is in sync with the New Education Policy-2020. At present, books prepared by SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training) are being used for teaching in government-run primary and upper primary schools in UP.

The chief minister said, “The NCERT books will first be introduced in class 1 from the next session 2021-22, in class 2 and 3 from 2022-23, in class 4 and 5 from 2023-24 and then in class 6 to 8 from the session 2024-25.”

“We have decided to introduce NCERT-based syllabus books in Uttar Pradesh government primary and upper primary schools from the next year so that a common syllabus is followed. It will help students if their parents move out from UP and decide to settle in another place,” said basic education minister Satish Chandra Dwivedi.

The syllabus will have elements of Indian culture, information about the state and will be packed with inspirational and motivational life stories of great people. The chief minister said once the standard of basic education improved, it will automatically have its reflection on secondary and higher education as well. He said that if any school was running in a dilapidated building, it should be shifted to a safer place. Old buildings should be bulldozed, and new structures should replace them as the lives of students and teachers should not be risked, he added.

He asked ministers and senior officials to visit the offices of basic education department to ensure proper cleanliness was maintained.

The chief minister emphasised on improving the learning outcome of students in government schools. At the same time, he said, government schools should adhere to the Covid-19 protocol.
