AGRA: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday assured an improvement in the water quality of the Yamuna river in the state by 2022 and appeared to take a jibe at the Delhi government of the Aam Aadmi Party over the issue. “If the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government ensures a clean Yamuna, the holy river will be made pollution-free in our state to such an extent that besides bathing, one could freely perform ‘achamanam’ (sipping water) in its waters,” he said, referring to a religious ritual. Adityanath, who was addressing a gathering in Vrindavan, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various schemes for the Braj region worth about Rs 411 crore.

AGRA: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday assured an improvement in the water quality of the Yamuna river in the state by 2022 and called upon the Delhi government of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to take some initiative to clean the river (Yamuna) on the lines of the Centre’s Namami Gange campaign. He lamented that nothing was done in this regard by the Delhi government so far.

“The Delhi government (led by Arvind Kejriwal) should at least take some initiative. The Centre’s Jal Shakti Department can take care of it later,” he said.

Adityanath, who was addressing a gathering in Vrindavan, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of schemes for the Braj region worth about Rs 411 crore. He asserted that the Yamuna would be cleaned in the way the Ganga was made pollution-free in Kanpur.

The Yamuna issue came up at a meeting organised for the Vaishnav Kumbh Baithak. The chief minister served food to seers during the meeting.

Under Namami Gange, heavy discharge of waste water into Ganga had not only been stopped, but the river had also regained its original shape, he said. Promising a new look for Braj, he expressed his intent to develop Mathura and Vrindavan on the pattern of Ayodhya, which he said was coming up as the biggest cultural and spiritual city on the global map.

“We have constituted Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad to provide the place to Braj which it deserves,” said Adityanath, who hoisted the flag for the Vaishnav Kumbh Baithak which would begin on February 16 and continue till March 25. As per the tradition, saints will now proceed to Haridwar Kumbh.
