LUCKNOW : For universities and degree colleges across Uttar Pradesh Monday brought a new sense of normalcy with enthusiastic students attending classes in good strength for the first time in about nine months that witnessed Covid restrictions.

The state government had allowed these institutions, were reopened with restrictions on November 23, to function normally from Monday.

Shruti Singh, a first year LLB Hons student, said it was fun to attend her first lecture on Monday after seeking admission in the University of Lucknow in October last year.

“A lot many students came to the campus. All of us were asked not to remove our masks and use hand sanitiser frequently,” said Shruti. “It was time to meet teachers, too, as all these days we were only attending online classes,” she said.

Arzu Nayab and Charu Tiwari, too, had fun on day one at the Lucknow University.

According to them, online classes are okay but they cannot be a substitute for physical classes where students can directly ask questions and get their doubts cleared, spontaneously. Aman Yadav, Himanshu Singh and Vishal Yadav echoed similar views. They said it was a big relief as they were tired of attending online classes for several months together.

At IT College also, attendance has improved a little. “We can say attendance has improved a little. As time will pass, more students will come,” says principal Vineeta Prakash.

Avadh Girls Degree College students will come in full strength from March first week, said principal Upma Chaturvedi.

While allowing normal opening of institutions, the government had suggested alternate methods for attendance, in place of biometric attendance, to rule out the possibility of any direct contact of students. The institutions were also advised to form student-staff committees to ensure that Covid protocol was followed by all on the campus.
