This is the season of monotone

If you think coordinating the colours in your outfit is a cumbersome task, you’re not alone. While last year was all about colour blocking and contrast dressing, this year, it’s taking a back seat — dressing down with monotone or one-tone looks seems to be in right now.

Recently, we saw US First Lady Jill Biden and US Vice-President Kamala Harris don one-tone looks for various events. Actors Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sonam K Ahuja and model Gigi Hadid were also seen donning the trend. While the shades varied, the theme of

monotone remained a constant.

Designers say the monotone look helps make a strong impact on the viewer. “Monotone is always a good idea, especially for formal events. It portrays a cleaner, neater look, with fewer distractions,” shares designer Kunal Rawal.

Another reason for tone on tone gaining popularity is that it exudes a certain power and strength. “The fact that it is extremely striking and impactful yet somewhat formal and graceful makes it popular in the current scenario, full of turmoil. Monotone dressing is symbolic of sombreness and restraint, which fits these unanticipated times we are living in,” says designer Shruti Sancheti.

Styling a monotone look is easy, too. Experts suggest to keep the accessories minimal, opting for pieces in gold, silver or muted colours. To decide on the colour of your monotone outfit, it’s important to consider the event in question. “If you’re going for a more classic look, black and white are the best options. But if you feel like experimenting, then you can play with colours,” shares Rawal. Marsala, emerald green, shades of blue and nudes are great options to go for in this season, suggest designers.
