After making her playback debut in Puneeth Rajkumar Parvathy Thiruvothu starrer Prithvi (2010), Shruti Haasan is all set for her second outing in the Kannada film industry. She will star alongside Prabhas in her acting debut — Prashanth Neel’s directorial, Salaar. While fans are expecting fireworks from this fresh pairing onscreen, the actor says the story, too, is beautiful, and credits the filmmaker for the same.

“I’m excited about this project and very happy to associate with the Kannada film industry again. The team is wonderful and I’m having the best time,” says Haasan, who is presently shooting for the film. “In the past, there were times I almost did a Kannada film, but it didn’t work out because of dates, etc. When it comes to Salaar, the character and the wonderful cast and crew were all contributing factors to me wanting to be a part of it,” she says, not divulging much about her character in the film.

Haasan was always keen to do Kannada films, more so because her father, actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, has high regard for the industry. So, what was his reaction to her working on this project? “He’s always happy that I’m working in different languages. We are such a diverse culture with our languages and traditions. I feel blessed to be a part of various industries,” she says.

Working with Prabhas would be a dream come true for many, and things aren’t different for her, either. “I’ve worked in Telugu (cinema) for years, but didn’t have the opportunity to work with him. His nature is so refreshing and real. I think the fans can expect something different this time, with us working together,” says the actor, whose last Telugu outing was Krack alongside Ravi Teja.

Amid all the cheer, a 2017 tweet of hers, addressing rumours that she’s doing a Kannada film, surfaced. “Clarifying that I have no plans of doing a Kannada film in the near future and have had no discussion with any1 regarding it either #rumor” read the tweet, which drew the ire of a section of Kannada film fans, who ended up trolling her for signing Salaar.

While such things are, indeed, upsetting, Haasan didn’t feel the need to put out a clarification. “The entire thing was misunderstood. I have utmost respect for all industries and creative minds, and I choose to put my mind to positive endeavours and energies,” she asserts.

Work aside, Haasan’s personal life, too, has been generating buzz in the past few weeks. Her photos with rumoured beau Santanu Hazarika (doodle artist and illustrator from Assam), are all over the internet. However, the actor says that she has “regretted talking about her personal life” earlier, and adds, “I will only reveal things when the time is right.”

I’ m excited about this project( Salaar)... the team is wonderful and I’ m having the best time.
