GIRDHARI SHARMA HAD RAISED APPREHENSION OF GETTING KILLED IN A FAKE ENCOUNTER EARLIER

LUCKNOW: With the lawyer submitting an application in a city court alleging that the police encounter of Girdhari Sharma alias Kanhaiya Vishwakarma on Monday was a cold-blooded murder, an FIR of murder is likely to be lodged against the police team involved.

The slain gangster’s lawyer Adesh Kumar Singh said the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate has directed Lucknow Commissioner of Police (CP) DK Thakur to register an FIR of murder against the police team claiming to gun down Sharma in encounter and get it investigated independently.

He said Sharma has raised apprehension of getting killed in a fake encounter earlier.

He said the court has cited a ruling of the Supreme Court stating that an FIR should be registered against the police team in a nearest police station (other than the police station whose team claims to gun down the accused in custody remand) in such incidents.

He said the court has asked the CP on Tuesday to get an FIR registered against the police team and apprise about it in three days.

Senior police officials of Lucknow police commissionerate, however, stated that they have not received any order yet in this matter.

“We will follow the direction and inform the court accordingly,” said a senior police official privy of the investigation.

Sharma was earlier gunned down by Lucknow police on Monday allegedly when he tried to escape from custody during his three days custody remand.

Sharma, who had long criminal record, was the key accused in the murder of mafioso turned MLA Mukhtar Ansari’s aide Ajit Singh, who was killed in the shootout at Kathauta crossing in Lucknow’s Vibhuti Khand police station limits on January 6.
