MEERUT: The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha will convene a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Bilari town of Moradabad district on Wednesday, which many Morcha leaders are expected to attend. According to Morcha leaders, the objective is to apprise the farmers about the flaws in the three farm laws and caution them against ‘misleading information being circulated by the government and its officials.’

BKU (Asli) is one of the allies in the Morcha and on the invitation of its president Harpal Singh Bilari, the Morcha agreed to convene this ‘ Kisan Mahapanchayat’ on his home turf.

Bilari claimed that Morcha leaders Gurnam Singh Charuni, Balbeer Singh Rajewal, Dr Darshanpal, social activist Medha Patekar and many other farmer leaders would attend the Mahapanchayat.

Bilari said that the objective of the Mahapanchayat was to expose the propaganda of the ruling government about the three farm laws and to make farmers aware about misleading information circulated by ruling party leaders and officials among farmers.

Bilari is a senior farmer leader who was associated with farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait and formed his own organisation by the name of BKU( Asli) after Tikait’s death in May 2011. He has his following in different districts of Moradabad division and neighbouring areas.

Bilari accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misleading farmers by repeating that the Prime Minister had assured to continue MSP. “Farmers never contested the existence of MSP. Their demand was to enact a law for purchase on MSP, which they ( BJP leaders and officials) never heeded,” explained Bilari.

Besides, the farmer leaders would also bring the list of those points in the farm laws which were against farmers and farming, he said.

He accused the government of always blaming farmers that they had stopped talks. “Farmer leaders had already informed the government about their objections to the agri laws during 11 rounds of meeting and the government deliberately tried to create confusion among farmers, said Bilari.

He said speakers at the Mahapanchayat would explain what was wrong with the laws and apprise farmers of the truth. Harpal singh claimed that BKU( Asli) leaders were working hard to ensure a large gathering in the Mahapanchayat.

He said that similar Mahapanchayats would be organised in Dhanaura of Amroha district, Sambhal, Hathras and other places in coming days to intensify the movement and expose the conspiracy of the government to disgrace and weaken the agitation.

It may be noted that BKU chief Naresh Tikait had also addressed a ‘ Kisan Mahapanchayat’ in Bilari on February 12 and it drew a large gathering of farmers.

The objective of the gathering is to apprise the farmers about the “flaws in the three farm laws”
