Ghaziabad DM’s unique way to educate protestors
LUCKNOW: Coming up with a novel idea to deal with those seeking permission for demonstrations or coming to submit memorandums, Ghaziabad DM Ajay Shankar Pandey has started giving them letters reminding them of their rights and fundamental duties. On Tuesday, Pandey handed one such letter to some activists who came to him seeking the district administration’s permission for a protest.
A study conducted by the district administration of Ghaziabad says that as many as 27 demonstrations have been held there during the last three months. The protests were held mostly on issues like fee hike in schools, farmers, and those of industrial units among others.
“Most of the protesters who come only talk about their rights
but seldom do they talk about their duties as a citizen,” said Pandey. “Under the new initiative, the protestors would be reminded of their national duties too. For that, two signboards have been placed at the dharna site. Those coming to stage a dharna would be given a letter of fundamental duties reminding them of following the Constitution, respecting the ideals, respecting the national flag, national integrity, peace and
brotherhood besides protecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country,” the Ghaziabad DM added. “Work for social harmony and respect for all people of India. Abandon such practices that are against the honour of women,” he said. “The protestors would also be told about protection of environment, forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife and that they should have sympathy for animals,” Pandey added.
