In sync with NEP 2020: Research scholars to guide undergrads at LU
LUCKNOW With a view to promoting research at undergraduate level as per the new education policy (NEP)-2020, the Lucknow University (LU) has decided that research scholars will interact with undergraduate students of their departments and assist them in research work.As per the NEP-2020 to be implemented in the state universities from the next academic session, undergraduate students will have to take on research from the first year and submit a research project in final year of their course.
“Research scholars are essentially the senior most students in the department pursuing PhD. On the other hand, undergraduate students are the youngest. So far, there was very little interaction between them. The NEP2020 gives an opportunity to bridge this gap for betterment of research environment in the departments,” said Lucknow University spokesman Durgesh Srivastav.
As of now, teachers at the university are allotted research scholars. Now, the research scholars, who have completed at least two years of research, will be allotted undergraduate students of their departments to supervise them under the guidance of teachers. “This will boost an understanding of research in a particular subject among undergraduate students,” said the spokesman. “The teachers of various departments have been asked to devise a schedule for interaction of research scholars and undergraduate students. This could vary from department to department,” Srivastav added. “If it works, the university will also plan similar arrangements for the graduate students pursuing masters in different departments,” he said.
