ARREST OF ‘MIRZAPUR’ WEB SERIES DIRECTORS, WRITERS STAYED

: The Allahabad high court has stayed the arrest of “Mirzapur” web series directors and writers Karan Anshuman, Gurmeet Singh, Puneet Krishna and Vineet Krishna in connection with an FIR lodged against them in Kotwali Dehat police station of Mirzapur district. The FIR accused them of improper and indecent portrayal of Mirzapur town and outraging religious belief.

The court passed the order on Thursday and it was made public on Friday.

PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad high court has stayed the arrest of “Mirzapur” web series directors and writers Karan Anshuman, Gurmeet Singh, Puneet Krishna and Vineet Krishna in connection with an FIR lodged against them in Kotwali Dehat police station of Mirzapur district. The FIR accused them of improper and indecent portrayal of Mirzapur town and outraging religious belief.

While Karan Anshuman and Gurmeet Singh are the directors of the first season of the web series, Gurmeet Singh is the director of its second season. Besides, Karan Anshuman and Vineet Krishna are the writers of the first season and Puneet Krishna is the writer of the second season of “Mirzapur” web series. Hearing the writ petition filed by Karan Anshuman, Gurmeet Singh, Puneet Krishna and Vineet Krishan, a division bench comprising justice Pritinker Diwaker and justice Deepak Verma issued notices to the state government and the complainan­t in the matter and directed them to file their replies in the matter by the next date of hearing. Earlier on January 29, the court had stayed the arrest of “Mirzapur” web series producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The court made it clear that the investigat­ion shall go on and the petitioner­s shall cooperate in the investigat­ion. The FIR was registered under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) and other Sections of the IPC and 67-A of the I-T Act.
