A meeting of health and family welfare department was held to review the situation following the spike in Covid cases in many states. Post-unlock, there was free movement of people from other states to Uttar Pradesh. Some states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh

share borders with UP, said officials.

Fearing that people coming

from other states might spread the infection in UP, the state government will issue an advisory for passengers coming from these states. The standard procedures, including Covid tests and quarantine of passengers coming from red zones, were likely to be implemented, said a health department officer.

Even as Covid cases had declined in Uttar Pradesh, the state government was monitoring the situation in all districts, particularly those that share border with other states.

To break the chain of infection, the state government is carrying out over 1.25 lakh sample tests along with contact tracing and surveillance work in all districts, he said.

The ministry of health and family welfare had directed states that are witnessing surge in Covid cases to increase sample tests, comprehensive surveillance and implement stringent containment curbs to check the spread of the virus.

The states were also directed to monitor the mutant strains through testing followed by genome sequencing and focus on the emerging clusters of Covid cases in respective areas, the officer said.
