JE deaths down 95% due to govt’s integrated drive: Yogi
State government has shown commitment in controlling Covid-19 too, says chief minister
LUCKNOW: : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said Japanese Encephalitis (JE) death figures had come down by 95% in the state and the incidence of the disease reduced by 75% as a result of the state government’s integrated drive since 2017 to control the menace which, otherwise, claimed the lives of thousands of children in 40-42 years.
The Dastak and JE vaccination drives were launched in 2017 with inter-departmental coordination.
He observed that the Uttar Pradesh government had shown resolve and commitment in controlling both Covid-19 and JE.
Inter-departmental coordination and public participation assisted the state government in passing through what looked like the most challenging and trying times, he said. The CM was speaking at a programme organised to inaugurate a special vaccination drive for JE.
The BRD Medical College of Gorakhpur used to report 1,000-1,200 deaths every year till 2017.
“It was my government that launched an integrated drive in 2017 with the health department being the nodal department of the mega drive which controlled
the menace,” he said.
The CM praised the efforts of the panchayati raj, the basic education and the secondary education departments in controlling JE. He congratulated families on the occasion of Khushaal Pariwar Diwas (Happy Family Day), celebrated on the 21st of the month.
He distributed shagun kits among the newly-wed couples. This day is observed to reiterate the commitment to bring down the mother and infant mortality rate, as well as recognising the efforts for controlling the population.
He said Happy Family Day, launched in November last year, had been a great success and, so far, 2,89,413 couples had been provided family planning services. He also launched “Intensive Mission Indradhanush 3.0” for vaccination of infants and pregnant women who were left out due to the Covid-19 lockdown. The mission will be undertaken in 37 districts. He directed officials to ensure public participation and continuous monitoring.
Health and family welfare minister Jai Pratap Singh said the vaccination fortnight, starting from February 21, would
identify and vaccinate the children who were left out. The e-kavach app has already registered over 3.50 lakh children. Under JE vaccination drive, all children below 15 years of age will be covered in 38 sensitive districts, he said.
Mission Indradhanush 3.0 will be conducted in two phases across the state. The vaccination will be done on February 23, March 1 and 2 in the first phase and April 5 and 6 in the second phase. Additional chief secretary (medical and health) Amit Mohan Prasad also expressed his views on the occasion.
I condemn the use of deadly violence in Myanmar. The use of lethal force, intimidation & harassment against peaceful demonstrators is unacceptable. Everyone has a right to
peaceful assembly.
HOUSTON: Refiners and petrochemical plants along the US Gulf Coast scrambled to shut production as an Arctic air mass spread into a region unused to frigid temperatures. The extreme cold, which killed at least two dozen people in Texas and knocked out power to more than 4 million at its peak, also hit natural gas and electric generation, cutting supplies needed to run the plants. Shutdowns led to the refineries flaring, or burning and releasing gases, to prevent damage to their processing units. That flaring darkened the skies in eastern Texas with smoke visible for miles.
