LUCKNOW : As many as five players from hosts Uttar Pradesh would be in the fray in the Men’s $15,000 ITF event being organized by the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Associatio­n from February 27, at the hard court of the Vijayantkh­and Stadium here.

Lucknow’s Ashutosh Tewari and Anand P Gupta along with Arnav Alok Goel have been given wild cards in the two-day qualifying rounds, scheduled to be held on February 28 and March 1, whereas Siddharth Vishwakarm­a and Chinmaya Dec Chauhan would be representi­ng the home state in the main draw through wild card.

The main draw starts on March 2, whereas the final is slated to be played on March 7. In all 32 in the main draw of singles and 16 in the doubles would be participat­ing in the event, which is being organized in the state capital after a long time.

Secretary of the UP Table Tennis Associatio­n was on Wednesday became the new secretary general of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI). He was elected to the post unopposed during the annual general meeting, held at Panchkula. He replaces MP Singh and prior to this, Banerjee worked as the treasurer of the federation. This is the first time when someone from Uttar Pradesh has become the secretary general of the federation. Earlier, Prabhat Chandra Chaturvedi worked as the president of the federation from 2013-17.

Rohan Jain struck an unbeaten 48, which came off 65 balls with the help of three fours and a six, helped RBN Global Club score a thrilling two-wicket win against Mehta Cricket Club in a league match of the 2nd Gaurav Mehta Memorial Tournament, at the NDBG Ground here on Wednesday.

Narendra Rachna emerged victorious in the 15000m event in the +45 age category at the 30th UP Masters Athletics Championsh­ip, at the Northern Railway Stadium here on Wednesday.

HOCKEY TRIALS

Trials to pick up state junior boys hockey team will be held on March 6 and 7, at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium here. Players born after January 1, 2002, must appear in the trials.

The selected team would be participat­ing in the forthcomin­g nationals.
