Australian envoy meets CM, discusses investment
LUCKNOW: Australian high commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell met chief minister Yogi Adityanath here on Thursday.
An official spokesman said Yogi informed the Australian envoy about the UP government’s steps to attract investment in the state. The chief minister said the state government had received proposals for investment of Rs 4.68 crore in the UP Investors Summit in 2018. He said Australia and India had good relations and both countries were interested in economic partnership. UP and Australia could take the partnership ahead in the education sector, he said, adding the state government had decided to set up a university in every division and a medical college in every district and Australian institutions could invest in this field. O’Farrel said investors from his country were interested in investment in road and infrastructure, water resources and skill development sectors. Both the countries are working together for development of banks of Ganga in Varanasi. O’Farrell also met UP chief secretary RK Tiwari and discussed possibilities of investments in various sectors in UP.
As per a statement issued by the chief secretary’s office, O’Farrell said that according to Australia’s India economic strategy, UP was a priority state and infrastructure development, education and agriculture were the focus areas. Tiwari told O’Farrell that UP government offered various facilities and incentives to the investors. He said that UP jumped many places and was now second in the country on ease of doing business rankings.
The state had expressways and more were coming up. It had already established six nodes under the defence corridor for the defence manufacturing industry.
