VARANASI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday said the feeling of mutual love and the intention to serve people should be upheld in politics as these were the guiding principles of the religion started by Sant Shiromani Ravidas Maharaj.

Priyanka attended the 644th birth anniversary of poet seer Ravidas at Sant Ravidas temple in Seer Govardhan area of Varanasi. After offering prayers at the temple and meeting spiritual leader Sant Niranjan Dass, she addressed the followers of Sant Ravidas and thereafter had “Prasad” in “Langar” (community kitchen) organised there.

She further said Sant Ravidas

taught people the true religion which spread a message of love and humanity without discrimination.

“Today, all you are celebrating the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas. I am very happy about this. I have a special attachment with Sant Niranjan Dass Ji. I want to say that the religion, which Sant Ravidas ji started, is the true religion. Us dharma ko dharan karte huye, use aap nibhate hai (While embracing the true religion, you people follow it). The true religion is always simple. It unites people. There is no discrimination in it,” she said.

“Compassion, service, truth and humanity are the guiding principles of the true religion. I am thankful to all of you that you people are following this true religion and carrying it forward. As per the teachings of Sant Ravidas, all of you are helping people and serving them,” Priyanka added.

“After corona outbreak last year, my effort was that UP Congress workers should also serve the people. When lockdown occurred, many people started walking towards their homes from other cities. At that time, the Congress men started community kitchens and served people. Then your society (the followers of Sant Ravidas) helped a lot. I also want to thank you for this,” she said.

Earlier, she was accorded a warm welcome on her arrival by party workers on way to Sant Ravidas Temple from the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.
