Magisterial inquiry ordered, says Sidharth Nath Singh

-

PRAYAGRAJ : The state government has initiated a magisterial inquiry into the Baswar village incident which took place on February 4. The inquiry committee has been asked to submit its report within 10 days, informed UP cabinet minister and state government spokesperson Sidharth Nath Singh on Saturday.

He shared this information while on a visit to Baswar, a small village of Nishad community members located in the trans-Yamuna area of the Prayagraj district. He along with Allahabad MP of BJP Rita Bahuguna Joshi visited the village and interacted with the locals.

Villagers allege that on February 4, a joint team of police, district administration and mining department had raided the ghats of Yamuna to stop illegal sand mining at Baswar and during it assaulted members of the Nishad community and damaged their boats. The administration, however, denies these allegations and claim that it was the villagers. Police too had registered FIR against a large number of villagers later on.

During the visit, he said, “There is no restriction on the leaders of different political parties coming and going to Baswar as it is a democratic country, but when the leaders came, they should have told the villagers about who made the law of NGT which is the root cause of the problem being faced by the locals.” “We have ordered a magisterial enquiry against the incident which occurred on February 4 and the report would be submitted in 10 days. Based on the report of the inquiry, action will be taken against the officials responsible if needed,” said Singh.
