Rajnath keeps tryst with generosity
VARANASI : It was a moment of “great satisfaction and joy” for defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday as he attended the wedding of a doctor, whose education he had funded when he (the doctor) was a child.
Singh had promised to fund the child’s education when he was the Uttar Pradesh chief minister (2000-02) after the boy excelled in his studies as a class 8 student of an ashram-style school. The BJP leader kept the promise.
On Saturday, Rajnath Singh attended the wedding ceremony of Dr Brijendra in Ghazipur district in eastern Uttar Pradesh as a father figure.
Rajnath Singh tweeted, “When I was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, I took up the responsibility of the education of a child. That child became a
doctor after studying and writing exams. Today, I attended the wedding ceremony of the same Dr Brijendra at his home and offered him my best wishes. It is definitely a moment of great satisfaction and joy for me.”
Brijendra completed his high school and intermediate education from Kanpur and later did MBBS from a medical college in Bihar. He is currently posted at the community health centre (Gosaiganj) in Ayodhya.
Dr Brijendra said he often met Rajnath Singh and took his blessings.
Dr Brijendra and his wife were grateful for Rajnath Singh’s attendance, saying, “The defence minister has come here in spite of a busy schedule.”
Rajnath Singh took part in several wedding rituals and blessed the couple. Rajnath Singh said that people should help the poor and meritorious children by adopting them.
