Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday continued his daily attack on the BJP government over the Covid-19 situation.

In a statement issued on the sixth day of his home quarantine since testing positive, he alleged that the BJP government had lost control of the administration. “There is no stopping the rise in deaths due to Covid. Bodies are piling up. But the BJP government continues to do meetings after meetings. The government is least bothered about people’s problems,” he said.

“Where are those arrangements and facilities that the prime minister and the chief minister talk about? If they are not able to manage, then should quit (rather) than playing with the lives of the people,” he said.

He further alleged, “In Prayagraj, extortion and loot are going on for the last rites. The situation

more or less similar in Ghaziabad, Agra and Kanpur.”

Administrative laxity had assumed new proportions in Lucknow as people were not getting ambulances and patients were not getting admission in hospitals, he said. “Under the circumstances, the administration is harassing good Samaritans who intend to serve the distressed,” he added.

He also said that the quarantine centres that the government had been “harping on” existed only on paper. “In Kanpur, Lucknow, Kannauj, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Chitrakoot and several other districts, the condition of health services and the shortage of oxygen are turning fatal for many,” he alleged.
