Covid patients to get treatment at cancer hospital from today
: The Super Speciality Cancer Institute and Hospital (SSCI) at CG city here will start providing treatment to Covid patients by operating 20 beds for Covid care from Tuesday.
“The sprawling hundredacre campus of CG city is gearing up to provide treatment to 200 Covid patients in days to come,” said SSCI director prof Shalin Kumar.
“Within a few days, the capacity of the hospital would be augmented to 200 beds for that work by enhancing infrastructure which is progress on a war footing,” he added.
“Our staff , doctors, nurses and paramedical staff are ready for the new challenge of Covid management. We were told to prepare the hospital for Covid care on April 12 and we did it in just a week. I would like to thank the government officials for providing all support, including NOCs and permissions, without any delay. All the beds would be having a centralised oxygen supply, ICU system, monitors besides 20 ventilators for the extremely sick patients,” prof Kumar said.
“The cancer care will not suffer as our cancer hospital is operating in a different block. Limited OPD services are provided while full range of services will commence soon. However, the number of patients has already reduced after the surge in corona cases. Earlier, we used to see 15 new patients and around 40 follow-up patients in our OPD daily. Around 65 beds were operational before the Covid surge but now the number of patients admitted has reduced a bit,” he added.
“Earlier, three surgeries were performed daily. However, we will try to continue the surgeries as before despite the fact that our doctors, nurses and paramedical will now be on duty in Covid hospital too,” prof Kumar said.
The super specialty cancer institute was envisaged by the government of Uttar Pradesh under the guidance of leading cancer specialists of India to provide comprehensive facility for cancer under one roof. Presently there are 24 faculty members and 15 residents besides 48 nurses and 45 paramedical staff in the cancer hospital.
