It was in January this year that Shilpa Rao tied the knot with her best friend, Ritesh Krishnan. With a lockdown like situation in effect, the singer’s happy to be spending some quality time with her husband, a luxury that their hectic schedules did not permit earlier.

“Ritesh and I are huge travel buffs and we miss travelling. But this is the time for duty and we need to be responsible for our families. Over the past few years, we’ve been away from them. We’re catching up on content that we’ve been waiting to watch. We cook together. We’re making the best use of the time,” shares Rao.

The Gungroo singer confides that while she’s happy to be in the company of her loved ones, she misses her live gigs which helped her ‘connect with the audience’. However, she is quick to point out that the pandemic has brought back independent music in vogue. “A lot of independent music is coming out and I’m very proud of all indie and mainstream musicians who’re trying out new things. This is proof that music is an unstoppable force,” she says, adding, “We’re recording and writing music from home. Musicians have a solitary way of working just like I like doing my riyaaz in solitude.”

However, her heart goes out to frontline workers who are tirelessly working round the clock to save lives during the on-going pandemic. ”Even after a year, we’ve not learnt Covid appropriate behaviour. That’s taking a toll on the medical staff. They haven’t gone to their families out of fear that they might infect them. So many of them have have lost their lives. Vaccination is one step further to end this crisis and I would urge everyone to get it if they’re eligible,” Rao signs off.
