KGMU staff oppose varsity’s Covid order
LUCKNOW: The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) employees association has opposed the university order asking the staff to return to duty after 10 days, if they get Covid-19.
The order, issued on April 22, said that all asymptomatic people should be discharged after three days or after 10 days of symptoms. No resting is required and in such cases. An RT-PCR may find them positive but they are non-infectious, so they should report for duty without delay. The order also said that all those asymptomatic need not get a test done, and those with symptoms need the HoD’s nod to get a test done. A direct sample to the lab won’t be entertained.
“How can KGMU make its own rules when the state government has made rules for testing? Also, the rules on the rest period for staff testing positive have been laid down by the state government. Why should KGMU make separate rules?” asked Pradip Gangwar, president of the KGMU Employees Council.
The association demanded that the general order on rest period by the health department be followed.
“If a person is not symptomatic his test should be done in seven days and if they test negative they should return to duty immediately as there is a staff crisis,” said Gangwar, who has written a letter to the additional chief secretary medical education along with the KGMU vicechancellor.
THE ORDER ALSO SAID THAT ALL THOSE ASYMPTOMATIC NEED NOT GET A TEST DONE
