‘Sanitisati­on drive taking place on a war footing’

LUCKNOW: The department of urban developmen­t is on a drive to spray disinfecta­nts like Sodium Hypochlori­te, Bleaching Powder, Malathion dust and lime powder to control the spread of Covid-19.

“During last one month, around 8,889 kg of Sodium hypochlori­te solution, bleaching powder, malathion dust and lime powder has been sprayed in Lucknow. As many as 639 manual and 115 tractor mounted sprayers, 3 anti-smoke guns are being used by 389 teams to neutralize the virus in air,” said Ashutosh Tandon, minister of urban developmen­t, UP.

“The war against Covid cannot be won in a day. It has to be a sustained effort to control the surge in spread of the pandemic. That’s why a multiprong­ed strategy is being implemente­d. Along with aggressive testing, collection of samples, contact tracing, treatment in hospitals, spraying of disinfecta­nts in air is vital,” he said. “In the entire state, 2,59,263 kg of sodium hypochlori­te solution, bleaching powder, malathion dust and lime powder have been used for sanitizati­on work being carried out at 1,88,990 places in municipal bodies. This is one of the biggest sanitisati­on drives to prevent the spread of corona pandemic in the urban areas of UP. Ward-wise sanitisati­on work was ensured in different shifts day and night. Sanitizati­on work was carried out by 4,986 teams in urban bodies. In this work, 5,473 manual and 1,264 tractor-mounted sprayers were used.” Like Lucknow, sanitizati­on was also done at 7,167 places in Prayagraj where 2,632 kg sodium hypochlori­te solution, bleaching powder, malathion dust and lime powder was used.

As many as 133 teams used 225 manual sprayers, 49 tractor-mounted sprayers along with 3 anti smoke guns for the drive to spray disinfecta­nts.
