Ramzan has always been a time of the year that people look forward to, today with all the fear, isolation and uncertainty things around look grim and gloomy. The holy month, also known as the month of charity, encourages Muslims across the world to the needy through donations and contributions. Following this, a number of youths in the city are trying their best to provide help to all in their own ways during the ongoing pandemic.

According to media student Sharukh Khan this is the time to show our humanitarian side and stand with each other. “Ramzan is an auspicious occasion for us as a community and we are supposed to help and support the needy around. My social foundation has been providing aid to all for years but during these tough times of pandemic we have tripled our capacity to reach out to not only to the needy ones but to the ones who are busy healing their loved ones. We arrange food packets, medicine kits as well as any medical emergency for anyone and everyone,” he said. Sisters Nabela and Naureen have come up with an initiative to provide medicinal help to the maximum.

“We were busy with our online classes and fasting when the surge in cases started. There was news of shortage of even simple fever pills. Then we thought that almost all of us have unused medicines at home. So, with our friends, we decided to play mediators with the help of social media and calls to arrange exchange of medicines on MRP or no money basis. Thankfully it did work, and we are glad that we were able to help in this small way.”

Another youngster Najmus Saqib is head down in providing food to the needy as well as those stuck in pandemic crisis.

“This Ramzan we are making efforts to reach out to those in distress and are doing our bit to make them happy. I am a treasurer at Manal Foundation, named on niece’s name whom we lost years back. Currently, my team is helping to provide lunch, dinner, sehri and iftaari to those fasting as well as to the ones struck in pandemic and have no provisions. Our online and calling services are open 24x7 so that no one stays hungry.”

Then there are those like young entrepreneur, Hamza Hasan who feels if we can’t help sick and those dying then we have failed the whole concept of Ramzan. “I lost a young friend to Covid. She was seven months pregnant and both mother as well as her unborn passed away due to lack of amenities. Since then, we friends have decided to stand by those who all are in need — especially those who have lost lives to pandemic in all nearby localities to bid them respectful last goodbye.”
