To distract themselves from the current gloom and spread some positivity on their social media feeds, many netizens are turning to online trends and challenges. One such popular trend is Runaway Aurora, in which people are sharing stunning silhouettes against the backdrop of the sky with filters, and the 2016 song Runaway by Norwegian artiste Aurora playing in the background. This trend has helped boost the popularity of the song, making it rise in charts, and Aurora is a little surprised by it “especially because it is happening so many years after the release”. “However, I’m moved and grateful that people have let Runaway into their hearts,” she says.

The singer-songwriter believes that “music has a magical way of speaking to us and being a friend in times of difficulties”. “I always believed Runaway was meant to be a good friend to people. I can understand why this song has been important for people in India now,” the 24-year-old says.

On the inspiration behind the song, she shares, “[The inspiration] is the same thing that people are going through right now, where you carry a lot of darkness, fear, sorrow and anxiety in you. I wrote it after experiencing someone passing away, and how difficult it can be to carry sorrow within you.”

Despite the popularity of the song now due to the viral trend, Aurora states it doesn’t matter to her much. “Success isn’t really that important as long as you have the things you need... What makes me happy is to make music and not to see what happens with it in the world. I’d be happy if this song takes me to India. It has been a long due dream,” she concludes.
