LUCKNOW : A group of youths have started a service, providing food, medicines, arranging oxygen or ambulance for Covid patients recovering in home isolation.

Members of the group named, ‘Badlav –Ek Kadam Shiksha Ki Ore’ said they have been coordinating with authorities to ensure that essentials like food and medicines reach those requiring them during home isolation period.

They said they are also coordinating with officials for oxygen supplies to patients in various city localities like Alambagh, Charbagh, Ashiana, Krishna Nagar and Hussainganj.

Now, many people have come in their support and with their help the group has also arranged two ambulances for patients, for free.

Somnath Kashyap leader of Team Badlav said, “It all began when Covid-19 infected father of a friend died recently. We were not able to arrange oxygen cylinder for him. An ambulance came nearly 15 hours late. He died at home. From that moment I decided to help all Covid-hit requiring help.”

“We contacted those with some clout in district administration and they arranged six oxygen cylinders for us. These we give to the needy. Two ambulances that we run have taken nearly 150 patients to various city hospitals. We are supplying food to more than 500 people daily along medicines to covid and non-covid patients, for free,” he said.

“Some of the doctors, advocates, professors, teachers, businessmen, traders, writers, intellectuals and policemen have started supporting us. They call us when they see any patient in need of oxygen, food or medicine. We get calls for providing ambulances for serious patients and have created a whatsapp group ‘Badlav Covid Helping’ through which we are receiving requests to help,” he said.

Last year too, these youths distributed food to people during the lockdown. “People have seen us helping others in the past. That’s why this time we got monetary support from everywhere to run our service,” said Akash Pal who mostly does night shifts with Team Badlav.

Other key members of this group, that has now more than 50 members, are Shanu Pal, Virendra Saroj and Satish Gupta.

“We have distributed our work in-shifts and it makes managing the requirements easier,” they said.
