Uttar Pradesh crosses the 15 lakh cases mark in 434 days since the first Covid case was reported
LUCKNOW: Covid tally in Uttar Pradesh (UP) crossed 15-lakh mark on Sunday.
This mark was crossed in 434 days since the first Covid case was reported on March 2, 2020. As many as 23,333 fresh Covid cases were reported on Sunday as the overall death toll touched 15,464 with 296 fresh fatalities.

As many as 23,333 fresh Covid cases were reported on Sunday as the overall death toll touched 15,464 with 296 fresh fatalities. The overall case tally has now gone up to 15,03,490.
As for the fresh cases on the day, Lucknow reported 1436, Meerut 1425, Saharanpur 1042, Gorakhpur 947, Gautam Buddha Nagar 940, Varanasi 909, Ghaziabad 578, Kanpur 485 and Prayagraj 402, according to official data. Only three districts reported over 1000 fresh cases in the last 24hours
Lucknow also reported 26 deaths, Jhansi 15 and Gautam Buddha Nagar 10.
“There are 2,33,981 active cases under treatment in UP at present. Of these 1,74,892 are in home isolation. Those in home isolation are ones without symptoms or mild symptoms. As compared to April 30 the number of active cases is roughly 77,000 less now,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary (medical health and family welfare) at a press conference on Sunday.
UP has tested 42,953,900 Covid samples till now including 2,29,186 in the past 24-hours.
Of these over 1,11,000 RT PCR tests were conducted by government and private labs. “We
are making efforts to raise the number of RT PCR tests in the state,” said Prasad.
Prasad said that vaccination for beneficiaries between 18 and 44 years of age had also been expanded and now 18 districts — Aligarh, Agra, Moradabad, Ayodhya, Saharanpur, Firozabad,
Jhansi, Shahjahanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bareilly and Prayagraj — will conduct vaccination for this age group. Vaccination for those above 45-years is already being done.
